This page is about this website. The game itself sets no cookies at all, and neither does the account service — see the privacy policy, which is the longer document.

The short version

• Nothing is set unless you say yes. Google Analytics does not load, and sets nothing, until you press Accept on the bar at the bottom of the page. Closing the bar without answering is not consent, and you are asked again next time.
• Declining costs you nothing. Every page works identically either way. Nothing is withheld, and you are not asked again.
• The game pages set nothing regardless. /play/ does not include analytics at all, whether you accepted or not — so playing in a browser, on itch.io, or inside Discord involves none of this.

What is actually stored

If you accept: Google Analytics

Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies named _ga and _ga_<id> in your browser. They hold a randomly generated number that lets Google count a return visit as the same browser rather than a new one. They expire after two years, or sooner if you clear them.

It records which pages were opened, roughly where in the world the request came from, and what kind of device and browser it was. IP addresses are truncated before storage, and the advertising and cross-site personalisation features are switched off in the configuration — so this is a visitor count, not an advertising profile. Google is the processor and its own terms govern what it does with the data.

What it is for is mundane and worth saying plainly: knowing whether anyone reads these pages, and which ones, so effort goes where people actually are.

Where the data goes, and for how long

Google Analytics data is processed by Google and leaves the European Economic Area — it is stored on Google's infrastructure, including in the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, which is the mechanism this transfer relies on, and Google's own terms govern what it does as our processor.

If that is not a transfer you want to make, decline. Nothing is sent, and the site is identical.

Google retains the event data for the period set on the property, after which it is deleted automatically. The cookies in your own browser expire after two years, or whenever you clear them.

Whether you accept or not: your answer

Your choice is kept in your browser's local storage under od-consent-analytics, as the single word granted or denied. It never leaves your device and is not a cookie — it exists so the bar stops asking.

Changing your mind

Clear this site's data in your browser and the bar returns as if you had never answered. In most browsers that is under Settings → Privacy → Site data, or by opening the padlock beside the address bar and clearing data for this site.

Deleting the _ga cookies alone also works, though the bar will not reappear until od-consent-analytics is cleared too.

Your rights

The site is run from the EU and the GDPR applies. You can ask what is held about you, ask for it to be deleted, or object to the processing, at opendoctrines@gmail.com. In practice the answer for analytics is usually that there is nothing identifiable to return — the data is aggregated and the IP is truncated before it is stored — but the request is yours to make and it will be answered.
